Keyword Search finds the words or phrases you type in regardless of where they appear in the catalog record. It is especially useful for finding:

| An exact phrase | Type the words in the exact order you want them to appear. | cat in the hat will find the title "Cat in the Hat". |
| Words that have different endings | Type an * (asterisk) symbol at the end of the letters. | myster* will find items with the words "mystery" or "mysteries". |
| Multiple words | Select "and" between words. | start and business will find items with both "start" AND "business". |
| Words with similar meanings | Select "or" between words. | turtle or tortoise will find items with EITHER "turtle" OR "tortoise". |
| Topics that don't include certain words | Select "and not" between words. | cats and not persian will find items about cats that are NOT Persian. |
| Words that are near each other | Select "near" between words. | fractal near geometry will find items about "fractal geometry". |
| Authors, titles and subjects | Select one of these from the drop-down menu on the left of the space where you type the words. | t:da vinci code a:clark, mary higgins Will find items about " Michigan ". |
| Items of a particular language, type or location | Choose from the "Options" menus. You may choose more than one item from each menu by using "Ctrl-click". |
